I was made redundant last week from my job after being there 20 years. As well as looking for a new job I'm also trying to sort out the financial side of things. As my company went bust I won't receive this months wage although I am in the process of claiming this back through the government scheme. I have applied for JSA which I will get and also been in touch with the council regarding council tax benefit, but I wondered if there's any contribution I could get towards the £85 per month service charge that I pay for my flat? I own the flat (mortgaged) but still need to pay a service charge each month. Does anyone know if there is any help with this? Thanks in advance

Do you have savings above £6,000 (or £16,000)?
Do you have a partner, and any other household income?
If you have no other household income (or savings above the capital limit) you should receive help with mortgage interest and the service charge after thirteen weeks.Gone ... or have I?0 -
thanks for the quick answer - I heard about the mortgage interest help after 13 weeks but didn't realise that might cover my service charge as well. Hopefully I'll be back in work by then! Thanks again0

The paperwork the JCP send you about your mortgage should also ask for details of your service charge. It may take a while longer to get this paid, as it usually goes to a Decision Maker to check that the charges are fair (£85 should not be a problem).Gone ... or have I?0
