I understand your pain.
Before getting a job at Tesco I was finding it incredibly hard to get a job. Employers don't give a damn about Students because they know they won't be there long.
I was lucky enough to eye a "temporary contract" at my local Tesco for the summer, 12 weeks. This was after 7 attempts at getting a job there though, as soon as you mention you are a student the interviewer goes all cold.
Also, rather bizarrely, Tesco has trained me up to their "silver standard", I've been to around 3 paid training sessions. Not sure why though really, I leave the company on the 15th of September...

There was an article in the Sunday Times about 2 weeks ago covering the issues of Student Employment. The conclusion...too many Eastern Europeans over here working for minimum wages and filling the jobs traditionally done by students. Apparently, there are even students willing to work FOR NOTHING, they just want to get employers to notice that they exist. This was generally given the no-no as it was considered that if you cant feel you have some selfworth the employers take the stance that you will not be reliable enough to take on...strange but true.
My son has been lucky enough to find a job, 6.00pm till 02.30 in a warehouse...along with the masses of Polish that have flooded the market.

i wrote 60 speculative letters to employers straight from a list on yell.com. got 20 odd replies, 6 interviews and 5 job offers.
Im not an academic, i wrote a good letter and emphasised my skills to them and why i wanted to work for them.
even got into two good agencies who told me policy is not to take students as they are unskilled, however had accepted job offer by then.0 -
Hey I have really been struggling to find anything but today I got a call from an agency to do some factory work, nappy packing, hoorah, have to do an induction this afternoon.
Should help to clear some of the overdraft. Good luck in job hunting.
