Just about to exchange contracts

Hi
I was told by my solicitor last week that we should 'hopefully' exchange by the end of last week. Then I was told it would be her first job Monday, I was then told there was some sort of paperwork issue with who I was buying off, but not really a problem and would be done first thing this morning, and she would call me when it was done. Its now 1pm and I am still waiting. Is it time to get stroppy do you think??
I just wondered what other peoples experience of conveyancers/solicitors was, as it has all been very tedious, and am super stressed and very tired of it all!!

I wouldnt stress just yet. Give your solicitor a call and politely ask for an update.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0

Thanks, its just that we have agreed a completion date for Friday, so my house is upside down, i have arranged re-direction of post, a van for moving etc -0

That's why a decent period between exchange and completion is useful - so those things can be arranged AFTER exchange and you know for sure it will go ahead...
You probably need to check that other parties can still complete as you planned - they may assume it will shift to match the delays.0 -
OP's solicitor cannot force other solicitors to exchange if they are not ready. It is as simpler as that.
If I had £50 for each time a client told me "everybody in the chain has agreed [such and such a date] for completion" and it turned someone else hadn't bothered to check with this solicitors before "agreeing" the date, I'd be a very rich man!RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0
