Unfortunately he barely eats breakfast, have bought cereal for him but he says he doesn't like eating early as he never had breakfast when he was younger... guess I have a lot to thank his mother for...

My OH is the same with breakfast, so now I send him off to work with a strwberry actimel and 2 apple fruit biscuit thingy's every day. He tends to then eat them on the bus or when he arrives at work.

It seems to be working pretty well. He still has breakfast, it's just an hour after getting up instead of straightaway.

My OH was the same with breakfasts too but my mum would ensure my younger brother and I ate breakfast everyday.

So whenever I'm with him, I always make breakfast for myself and him at the same time. That way it's already made and he has no excuse! :j

Thanks again all, so far today's food was a success, and been and got stuff for casseroles etc ready to attempt some over the weekend! Am also going to have a go at making snacks e.g. flapjacks, things he can eat without realising he's eating lol. As for breakfast I've told him I'll be making him cereal tomorrow and he will be eating it - when he said he didn't like feeling full first thing I pointed out that a bowl of cereal doesn't mean half the box and he should try a reasonable amount! Wish me luck!

That's good about breakfast - he could be missing out on a huge amount of calories by not eating it. Make sure it's something none-cr*p though for cereal!

On a more serious suggestion then: how about a fruit smoothie every night for pud (you could have a small one, he can have a big one). Depending on the fruit can be quite high calorie (you could put a dollop of icecream in his, and a dollop of low-fat yoghurt in yours) but overall healthy.

    Great idea!
Every night OH and I used to have the following smoothie - it sounds gross but because of the red fruit in it it looks good and tastes good!
    2 bananas
    2 oranges
    2 apples
    1 avocado
Large handful of frozen mixed berries (blackberries, raspberries etc)
    Orange Juice

Any other fruit (or veg) knocking about in the kitchen

My OH used to be a skinny minny 10 years ago and he ate loads. He is now a lot bigger and very muscly (:D) but its because he works out every day for an hour or two and he has protein shakes.
They can be expensive but we bulk bought from this website - its £110 for 4 tubs. OH takes 3 shakes a day and it lasts about 4 weeks a tub but he only takes 3 shakes cos he works out - he's put an extra half stone on (in muscle) in the last 6 weeks. Someone not working out excessively could get away with just taking 1 or 2 a day.

Meant to say - does OH just not like eating brekkie first thing?
I've bought these and OH takes his cereal to work and has it there and I'll probably do this when I go back as I generally can't face food when I get up!

That seems rather unfair. To me breakfast is a couple of cups of black coffee and sometimes I will have toast but more often than not lunch at midday is the first thing I will eat. There are loads of people that don't like eating breakfast...trying to eat when I've just got up makes me sick, and I just couldn't stomach a bowl of anything swimming in milk at that time of the day.

I try and eat more at the end of the day to compensate. Perhaps you could give him a roll or garlic bread with his main meal, and if you are making something like stew add dumplings and if it's pasta grate some cheese on top.

Beer and cashews also help

Thanks, that's worth checking out as well! We did go through the smoothie phase, bananas, icecream, peanut butter, syrup.... and any other fruit we had around, but he seemed to get bored of that after a while...

Those tubs are normally £40 each so its a good deal, they taste OK as well. OH got Chocolate and Chocolate Mint and just mixes them with water but if he mixed it with milk then it would be just like a milkshake.
