Cancelling a credit card account...

Dear all,
I have just phoned up Capital One and (after they've given me a lot of grief)
managed to cancell an account with them.
I did explain that the credit limit I had with them ( £200) was
of no use to me. However, they were still nasty and said
although they would cancell the account I was to send them
the card back since it was their 'property'.
Now, I've cut up and thrown the card away a long time ago. I didn't
tell them this. What exactly can they do to me now???

To me absolutely nothing. On closing accounts I've always done the same as you and just thrown them away. I wouldn't worry as the card would only have been destroyed by them in any case.
They can't charge you in any way either - so don't worry

The only slight issue might be that the account will technically remain open until the expiry date of the card, so it will probably still show on your credit file. This is just so that they know who to charge any transactions to should any come through (ie if you lied about cutting up the card and then went out and started using it).0
