Warranty on work done under warranty
Options
I got locked out of my Ford Transit about six or seven months ago, miles from anywhere, because my key fob failed. I couldn't get in by putting the key in the door lock either because it had siezed up through lack of use (always used the button on the fob).
I eventually got in after about half an hour prodding and pushing the button on the fob.
Ford replaced my key fobs and freed up my door lock under warranty as the van was still under warranty at the time.
The problem is that six months down the road it's done it again, this time I was only a mile from home so managed to walk home and get the spare key, which worked no problem by pushing the button.
Ford tell me that any parts replaced or work done under warranty don't carry any warranty beyond that of the vehicle itself. Is that right? I would have thought the new keys and the work they did on the lock would have had a years warranty on them.
Any advice would be appreciated.

not sure on the warranty issue
if its a new style transit with the blue key try shaking the key for 2-3mins then retry sounds daft but works0 -
I would have thought that there is no need for them to put you in a position where you are better off than if it hadn't failed the first time. So I can see their point in not extending the warranty.
The fact that it keeps going wrong, however, is worrying.0 -
I suspect Jimmy is right on the warranty question, although I’d argue that under Sale of Goods a van which needs two new sets of keys in 6 moths has a could well have a quality issue and if so it should sorted out by Ford
Google is your friend, see if it’s a wide spread issue0 -
I suspect the button in the fob is failing due to a poor design. Crack it open and check to see if the PCB on which the switch is mounted is still intact, and that the soldered connections haven't broken away from their tracks.0

Yip, it's a widespread issue apparently. That said, the fob is sealed (it charges up vis some sort of inductive loop in the ignition barrel so doesn't need the battery replaced).
I wonder if there's a way to get it replaced with an older "battery style" fob from an earlier model! hmmmm.0
