The only way to tell is to add them under another screen name (however, they will have to accept and not block that screen name). That way, you'll be able to see them online, but they'll appear offline in your main account (the one they blocked)

Beware of services/websites that claim to be able to tell who is blocking you - most (if not all) of these are scams that will steal your password and possibly infect your computer.
  • If you've both got a mutual contact on MSN, ask mutual contact if they can see this person online when you can't. If they can, you've probably been blocked. Either than or MSN's screwed up (which isn't unheard of either.)

There is a very technical way of doing it but it's not 100% accurate. It used to be possible about 5 years ago with 100% accuracy until Microsoft introduced a privacy feature which can be seen by in Windows Live Messenger by going to Tools>Options>Privacy, on that screen there is a tickbox to say 'Only allow my friends to send me messages'. If that is ticked then it is impossible to check, without doing what others said which is to create a new account and try to add the target.

There are some web based tools that will do the check, just google 'msn block checker'. Beware of any of them that ask for your details other than the target email address. You also can't be sure what goes on behind the scenes with them e.g. they could notify the target that someone has tested their account. There is no guarantee that they are even legitimate, example they could just be harvesting email addresses.

If you're interested, the way the block checker works is it signs into it's own MSN account, and it then tries to open a conversation with the target (without sending a message), if the target responds and joins the session then this means the target is online, if no response then the target is either offline or they have the above privacy option checked, or both.

Certain messenger programs, Emesene for sure ( possibly amsn) have a piece of information where they tell you whether or not the contact "has you". Now I presume this just mean if your in their contact list or not but I'm not sure. Might be a good place to start if you think your contact may actually have totally removed you as well as possibly blocking you.

MSN has this, it can be found under Tools>Options>Privacy>See who has added you to their contact list. However, the way it is worded suggests that it is simply that - people who once added you, it is not entirely clear whether or not a contact would be removed from the list upon deleting you from their contacts.
