Hi there can anyone guide me to a reasonable topsoil supplier who delivers to to the essex/london border
the turf area i want to cover is 27 ft x 40 ft and will sit on reasonably heavy clay , also why im asking what depth of topsoil do you think will be sufficient

4 inches = 14 tonnes and £900 on some reputable suppliers websites using their calculators

very expensive :(:(:(
any help will be much appreciated.
thankyou in advance

you could ask for some on freecycle to reduce the amount you're buying.

Call your local garden centres and ask them. Is there any reason you want to put topsoil on your whole garden? :D

If you dig sand into the soil it will break down the clay and that will be fine for putting the turf onto. I have incredibly heavy clay in my garden and you'd be amazed at how well the grass grows!

Alternatively there is usually somebody giving away some topsoil on gumtree. Not sure where you are, but there are a couple of offers in london.

Thanks for the replies . I need topsoil only on the proposed lawn area as the whole garden is 27 x 95 ft . sharp sand and manure seems to be the way to go .
    happy gardening to all
