Sounds like you're the only one getting decent service then. My girlfriend's parents are with them and they have nothing but problems with it. Consistantly slow speed but even more annoying the connection drops now and again for 2 or 3 days at a time.

If your girlfriends parents connection is dropping for 2 or 3 days at a time, i would say there is a definate problem with the line/ exchange or the hardware setup at their house. I can't see the network being responsibile for that kind of dropout especially if it is a reoccuring one.

    Hello,

I expect it to go slower at peak times, but not to be so slow as it's unusable ;)

Have looked on other AOL / Talk Talk boards and it seems evening slow downs are a common problem :( with a number of people saying they are getting old modem speeds!

Will go pursue this with AOL / Talk Talk.

Thanks again for everyone's replies :)

Try here and see if their is a capacity problem at your exchange.

Think I've been having similar problems to you for the last few months! Been on to AOL's tech support so many times, and tried so many things, they now say there's nothing they can do :-(

Like you, there's no LLU presence on my exchange, but am still considering changing supplier. Just wondering if I'll have the same problem with a different ISP as they will still be using BT's equipment.

Make sure MTU is set to 1450 for AOL.
I know this because I was on the phone to AOL today.

As an aside, I rang three times today to get a broadband username/password and three different phone calls gave me 3 different passwords. One of them worked - :)

This is why, for he most part, I won't go near AOL.
Their support is just too stupid.

How on earth are TalkTalk going to combine all these companies if they all have such blatantly obvious problems. It'll take years..

I think its a case of C/W growing far too quickly and not being able to cope.

I sync at 16MB and most nights i surf at 300KB which is nearly 3 times slower than I can upload, total crap, I'm out of contract thank god, time to move me thinks.

Talktalk MTU should be 1432, or even 1400

They are still working on their upgrading as I speak, just tried logging onto my a/c. cannot due to maintainance. tried IE. 18185A/c. same/Tried 18185 a/c firefox, same. AOL are always doing something to their system. weeks now, phoned them, said try later. sometimes ok, other times not.If I hadn,t just renewed I would be gone, they even asked for my line last week. Imagine if I had agreed. They are cheap, that,s all I can say about them after 5 years with them ,nothing I do is that important to warrant the hassle of going through a disputed change.Patience;;better the devil you know; They are expanding too fast without the means to cope. Not all know AOL. TT. CW are the same so they assume one is better than the other.Got all llu at my exchange, half mile away. might as well be on the moon.TT stopped me in Morrisons yesterday, been there weeks touting. offered me 8mbs, £6.99. When I told him he was talking C**p, he was lost for words. His script didn,t allow for experience; My exchange is on A65 leeds, peak time, nose to tail, AM/PM.Murder;No other route. same as exchange, too much traffic at peak times.Murder.

My MTU works at 1492, tried the lower ones and pages either wouldn't load or would load 2nd time of trying
