Got my pre-payment meters switched over to credit meters.

I've taken a couple of photos of the gas and electric readings, can someone please tell me from reading them what a rough estimate would be of my annual usage.

I'm currently with Scottish Power Premium Plus.
The monthly direct debits are
Gas = £55
Electric = £39

They say if I "over pay" now I'll be in credit for the winter months. I'd rather not be over paying, I'd rather be paying a more accurate monthly rate.

I am single and I'm in work all day, the house is a mid terrace. I live in the Merseyside area and I'm thinking of switching to someone else, can anyone recommend a new supplier to me?

Thanks.

    Not possible to calculate annual consumption from a few weeks.

    Your gas is pretty low though, in 7 weeks you have used about £40 worth of gas, but in mid winter you might use £200 in the same period.

    for 5 weeks electricity you have used less than £20 and that doesn't increase that dramatically in winter.

    Thanks Cardew - so I take it I'm a very low user.

    In the comparison websites roughly what kw should I say I would use annually. Even in winter I'm the type of person who wears the appropriate clothing rather than being in the house in t-shirt and shorts. I turn everything off at the wall when not in use, and I only heat up the water when I need to.

    Obviously I'm paying too much to Scottish Power:eek:

    Hi B'stard - As Cardew has pointed out, your beautifully presented readings point to you being a very low user, but the time base is too short to make an accurate annual forecast.
    However, here's a very rough guide

    Electric Your figures over the 54 day period give a use factor of 2.3kw a day and the rule of thumb is that in winter, simply because you turn the lights on earlier, your consumption will rise by 20% from that in Summer - Although your reads are for Spring and not High Summer, taking them as Summer and adding 20% for Winter, your annual consumption comes out as 924Kw - At this very low level you will probably be best off with Ebico who do not have a standing charge

    Gas On your figures you used 21.6kw a day over the 54 days, but with Gas the rule of thumb is that in Winter your consumption will rise 80% over that in Summer, so using the same formula as above, your annual gas use comes as 11037Kw, which roughly half of that of a family household

    With these annual reading, 'Dual Fuel' tariffs may not be the best for you, so look for individual tarrifs for Gas & Elec that have a Daily Standing Charge, and not the No Standing Charge tariffs which charge the first xxx units used a year at a premium price
    All the best

    Hi B'stard

    I would call SP with your current meter readings and ask that your payments be reviewed as you beleive that they are far too high for the gas and electricity you will be using. I can't actually see the first photos for gas and electricity, but if Cardew's calculations are accurate then I would think your electricity payment could be lowered as this should not fluctuate greatly over the year. The gas is different and you will use more during the winter months and less during the summer months.

    I appreciate your comment regarding not wanting to over pay now but would you not rather pay the same amount all year round than have your payments drastically increase over the winter months?

    The only way to know exactly what you use annually is to record your gas and electricity meter readings exactly 12-months after readings you have already recorded.

    Have a look at this link below which will give you an idea of whether you are on the best tariff with SP or whether we offer a cheaper tariff that you can change onto:

    Let me know if I can be o further assistance.

    Kind Regards

    Photos of meter:

    From 04 March 2010 to 26 April he has used 104 cubic metres gas(approx 1165kWh)

    From 24 March to 26 April he has used 126kWh electricity.
