Hi
I’m moving into a house which doesn’t have a number allocated. BT told me there was a “stop line”, then went into their spiel trying to sell me very expensive broadband etc.
Then I called Talk Talk (who advertise a cheap 18 month option) but when I said there was no number allocated they said they’d need to send an engineer out (and charge £70) and I then had to sign up for 24 months at a more expensive rate than advertised on the internet.
BT didn’t mention that an engineer had to be called out and I was wondering if Talk Talk were “trying it on”?
Does anyone know what the score is?
Thanks
Martin

BT will normally reconnect a (BT) stopped line free of charge (I just did it for a relative moving into an executor's sale house - which had been empty for 8 months).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I went for PlusNet. No reconnection charge, 12 month contract, £18 per month (inc line rental)
It's been online for a while now and seems like a good service.0
