Students and Invalidity Benefit

My son has just broken his arm. He is a student age 21. For varying reasons, they think it may not heal in the normal 6 weeks. Normally in the summer holidays of both school and uni, he works, but I suspect he may find it difficult to find work now that he cannot use his right arm and will be unlikely to by the time term time ends.
Will he be entitled to any sickness benefits?
He gets a full grant as I am a single parent (daughter still at school) and my taxable income is below the threshold. I am unable to work because of a disability.
TIA

sorry but from what I remember he isn't able to claim ESA as a student if he's returning to the same course after the summer break, his student loans/grants are meant to cover him.

Disabled students can. However, no idea about temporary disabilities.

Yes but the lad in question has a broken arm he's not a disabled student, disabled students who all ready get ESA may continue to get it when they are studying (in some instances) but for this senario sadly he won't be eligible unless he isn't going back to uni after the hols

Get your son to look into eligibility for his university hardship fund and/or a student loan.

ESA (which replaces incapacity benefit) is for those who are unable to due to sickness or illness - the criteria is listed here

Has he finished his degree or will he be returning to university in September?

He will be returning in September.
He has worked both during school holidays and uni holidays almost continually, so I was wondering if he had enough contributions. How can I check?

He would have to be working for the last 2 tax years with no gaps - has he?
