Letterkenny is nice - nice edge of town shopping area and lovely half hour drive from Dunfanaghy.
Also have stayed in Killybegs - good if you like commercial fishing boats etc. but not much else.

Dunfanaghy itself is lovely.Good pubs and restaurants, one or two art/craft shops.A great art gallery and alovley coffee shop.
You can rent appartments there too.Forgot to mention the lovely beach to walk on and a horserising centre. But if its shopping you are into then Letterkenny would be better.

Gweedore/Gaoth Dobhair is lovely, I have stayed in Bunbeg loads of times! Google Teach Campbell, best B&B in the country and they do a breakfast that would fill you for days!!!

We stayed in Kees Hotel between Stranorlar/Ballybofey a while ago, the food and service were good and there's plenty to see and do between the two small towns. The leisure facilities in the hotel are good too, a nice sized pool and gym available.

Here's the website if you want a look:

  • Southern Donegal - Ballyshannon, Rossnowlagh.

The Sand House Hotel right on the strand is very good and the Great Northern in Bundoran have some good offers at the moment, especially midweek - €59pp sharing for 2nts B&B. It has a lovely setting and has its own golf course, although I'm not really a fan of Bundoran itself tbh.

Here's a great hotel for a romantic break if shopping isn't on your agenda, The Lake House, Portnoo http://www.lakehousehotel.ie/ Great scenery, lovely beaches and local towns to explore like Ardara, Glenties and not far from Donegal. The scenery on the west coast is magnificent and I can personally recommend the hotel, haven't stayed but have eaten there when staying locally with friends.

If you have a bit of cash Rathmullan has the Fort Royal Hotel and Rathmullan House. Also B&B in the town called The Knoll. Nice beach for a walk, a few pubs and lovely scenery up the coast to Portsalon beach which is spectacular.
