Should we have to pay?

My apologies for the ambiguous title, But am stuck for time and would appreciate some advice, I'll explain our situation so its clear and why, so you understand my haste.

We bought a used car from a dealer on the 28th March this year. My partner would normally take a lot more time over choosing one, but our situation was changed due to my dad's ill health and in turn passing.
With my parents being 300 miles away and our need to get to them, the selection was limited, but we got, what we thought was a good deal.

We paid £2000 For a 2001 primira sport+ hte dealer said it has just got through an MOT fine with no issues and my partner made him fully aware, on our return from my family, he would have it checked with our local mechanic...... Which we did last week.
Our mechanic called within the hour, to tell us, the near side front and rear brake caliper was seriously deteriorated and almost seized.
He said to contact the dealer, as it should be done under warranty, Which we did.

We dropped the car off last night, and have just received a phone call from the dealer that says he cant see a problem and that the front one is fine, and for peace of mind he is happy to change the back caliper but we have to pay £80 for that privilege. Yet the car is under 3 months warranty.

I believe the warranty is a shady area, and just hope someone can give us an idea of where we stand?

Not 100% sure as all warranties are different, but things like brakes etc are not normally covered. They all come under wear and tear, same with things like tyres, exhaust.....

It might just be down to a difference of opinion between your mechanic and the dealer, the dealer doesn't want to pay for any work doing to the car, yet your mechanic wants work.

The warranty on used cars usually only applies to major mechanical defaults, (and then if the dealer feels the need, they usually have a way to wriggle out of it).

I bought a car a few years ago and the cambelt went within a week of buying it, fortunately the dealer sorted out all of the problems for me.

If it was seized you would know all about it. Think you might struggle on this one, can you not see if he will do it for parts only or similar?
