How to buy a new house

I remember there were some books where you yourself can do the paperwork involverd in buying a house. Has anyone done this and if so was it succesful? Was talking to a solicitor regarding fees and as expected they said some mortgage lenders do not accept personal searches etc and only accept from the solicitors.

can anyone recommend any books etc

Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

    I read a book a number of years ago called 'the great conveyancing fraud', don't know who it was by sadly.

    Are you buying with a mortgage? If so you may struggle to do this yourself, the lender may refuse to release funds to you on completion.
