Natwest Phishing Email - will I get a refund

Hi

I stupidly replied to an email from HM Revenue & Customs which then took me to the Natwest homepage where I filled in my details.

Of course, this turned out to be a phishing email, and I found out 2 days later that they have taken approx. £1,600 from my account.

Obviously I have reported this to the Natwest fraud team, and they are in the process of setting up a case.

I just want to know is there any chance of me getting this money back or even a percentage of it?

A factor that might effect my case is that it technically wasn't my money - I have a £2000 overdraft and I was minus £1000. The fraudsters went over my overdraft limit by roughly £600 - something that I didn't even realise you could do!

I am angry with Natwest for letting them go over my overdraft without it bouncing, and not thinking this was suspicious activity - I never spend large amounts in one go.

Has anyone had any experience of this, or can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks

Lucy

The reason I am doubting getting my money back, is that I gave my online details to the fraudsters by filling in what I thought was the Natwest homepage. So Natwest might not look on me too kindly as I should have been more vigilant with my details.

  • I've filed a case with them and told them all the details of when I logged on to online banking, and which transactions were frauds, and the fact that I think it happened through a fake email from Natwest to which I answered to. They've got the case going. Tried ringing today again, but they said it will take 7-10 days for them to get back to me. I just hate waiting to see if I'll get it back!
