Irish passport applications

Just a quickie - anyone know how long these are taking (from the UK) through recent experience? OH sent off his 3 weeks ago (UK embassy) and it's still not showing as received in Dublin on the website yet. Embassy tel only open am.

There were a few strikes in the Irish passport offices a few weeks and it may be stuck in the backlog...

strikes are over, they did have a major water leak as well which has delayed things even more.
it can take up to 6 weeks for the passport to return. its also a busy time of year for applications as people realise they need one/renew.

i did mine and baby's over christmas and it took 10 days.

Thanks, trouble is that the info on there, like most I can find, relates to applications made from Ireland direct to the Passport Office via the Express service. Ah well, will have to be a bit more patient I guess.

did you send your application to london?

i did too and when it returned it had actually been issied in dublin, unlike my last one which was issued in london.

if thet are being sent to dublin that would explain your delay

Yes, the instructions said to send to London, but that they would send it on to Dublin. (Makes you wonder why not just send to Dublin but hey-ho we followed the instructions :A)

My mum sent hers off mid-Feb and just got it back yesterday, so it took about 9 weeks ! Luckily she didn't need it urgently, plus it was also a first time application so may have taken longer than a renewal. She has always had a British passport but in Ireland if you're over 60 (or 65 maybe) then you get a free Irish passport so she thought she might as well get it free.:j

they are still managing the 10 day turn around if you use the express service, though i think that service may only be available to folks in N.Ireland,
