Natwest Step Account

Hi all,
Hoping you can help me out. I've got quite poor credit history and desperately need a bank account. I currently have a basic account with abbey but i find them the most rude and unhelpful people in the world. i need a new account as i've recently started a claim for jobseekers allowance and need an for the money to be paid into and pay my bills preferably with a debit card.
I applied for a Natwest Step account last week online, received the application to sign and return. On Saturday i got a letter saying my application for the step account had been declined as i didnt meet their criteria. So i've applied online for a halifax easycash account?
However this morning (monday) i've recieved a letter from Natwest stating my account is open, giving me my account number and sort code and saying my card and pin will follow shortly.
I'm so confused.. please help!

I applied for a Step Account but was declined too. I have complained and it is currently being dealt with.
Give NatWest a call on the number on the letter with your reference number and they should give you a more definitive answer.0 -
Thanks for that Cif i will try that when i get some money on my phone. I have just got an email from halifax welcoming me to online banking giving me a user name and saying my password should arrive soon. Do you think this means my application for an easycash account has been accepted even though i only applied last night?

Try the Barclays Cash Card Account. It's better than Natwest and Halifax.
It could be opened in branch with account details available on the same day. All you need is one piece of photo ID.0 -
Thanks for that book12, but Barclays are a company I currently owe money too and dont like the idea of them having the right to off-set against my benefit money.:T trying to get back on track! Proud to be starting my debt free wannabe journey

Looks like you will need to stick with the Halifax Easycash Accout then. When you use it for a few months, you could try upgrading it.
I'm confused about th conflicting information about the Natwest account. Give them a call to see what's going on.
Just have both accounts open, as both have different cards (Halifax - Electron, Natwest - Visa debit). You could use the Natwest card when the Halifax Electron card isn't accepted at some places.0 -
Yeah think thats what i'll do. saying that i've had an electron card before and not really had any problems using it. only places i tried and couldnt were at the train station (just went and got it out of the cash machine instead) and tesco.com for shopping deliveries, but just used asda instead!:T trying to get back on track!
