Building an arch ......

I'm looking at putting a new arch in a living room to split off the dining area. The opening is 2.6m by 2.4m (w*h).
Can anyone recommend any mouldings or the thickness the arch should be?
The current one is only 8cm thick and just looks flimsy

Not sure what you mean about the current one.
but
You can get arch formers from B&Q etc, in steel mesh. However I have been a plasterer for 22 years and I still have nightmares with them, did one this week for the first time in ages actually.0 -
A professional plasterer did one for me recently. I took the door off between the kitchen and hall, and had the door frame made into an archway.
He built the frame work up himself before plastering over it rather than buying pre-formed pieces. It looks much better than we could have done with a DIY job.
I would recommend finding someone to do the work for you. Here I go again on my own....0 -
My suggestion would be to rip the arch down and keep the room square!
Arches are outdated0
