Get at least 3 quotes and make sure you are comparing like for like. When using a local firm try and find one that has been around for a few years, personal recommendations are best.

I would initially get a quote from British Gas.

It will almost certainly be way more expensive than any other quote you are likely to get. However it will be comprehensive and should detail everything that is required(you won't need the dreaded 'power flushing').

With that as the benchmark you can get quotes from other local plumbers which should be 30% to 40% cheaper than BG if the experiences of posters on this forum is typical.

However make sure you are comparing like with like.

I agree BG can be very expensive. I got a letter today telling me BG have reduced Installation + New Boiler costs by a third.

Worth a free quote to find out and remember to haggle try and get a powerflush free with a new installation Ive heard of it happening.

Most (gas) boilers come with a manufacturers guarantee. However the guarantee is dependant on the installation complying with the manufacturer's requirements, which usually include the powerflush.

This is to avoid the years of crud built up in the rads/pipework gettimg into and damaging the boiler.

Far better to negotiate hard on price and/or free powerflush, and keep your guarantee intact, than save yourself a few £s and invalidate the guarantee.

    Agreed.

However the OP had a fire and needs a "completely new central heating/hot water system in my house. due to a bad fire the whole lot needs ripping out and renewing".

Which is why I stated he won't need a powerflush!!!

Agreed - unless the manufacturer's guarantee STILL insists on a powerflush!. They can be pretty prescriptive! Only a good read of the T&Cs will tell you though.

    Not understood.

If he has a "completely new central heating/hot water system in my house. due to a bad fire the whole lot needs ripping out and renewing"

With new pipes and radiators, what is there to flush? It is a new CH system.
