For a college course she will only be entitled to ALG. This is assuming she hasn't done college courses before.

ONW has more info on me about college courses. It might be an idea if you can tell us if she has done previous courses and what course she wants to do.

hi, thanks for replying, she did 2 years at college when she left school, then had a part time job and was off sick for this last year, but would like to return to college to do a travel and tourism course which i think is 4 days a week, i was always made to believe that of you were unemployed you got the course for free but not sure what the situation is now.
    Thanks for replying

I think this rules out ALG

Which courses can you do with ALG?

To be eligible for ALG, the course you take must lead to your first full Level 2 or first full Level 3 qualification.
You must also be studying full time - at least 12 hours a week (equivalent to 450 hours of ‘guided learning’ a year, or 150 hours a term) - and attending college regularly.

Not sure about course costs though!

What level of course did she do before and what level would the T&T course be?

I think the course she did after leaving school were nvq levels 1 and 2 in make-up and media make-up, (scars and theatrical makeup) i think it was level 3 she decided not to do.
The T&T course i am unsure about as there are 5 different courses, my second dughter is doing this course as she leaves school this year as she cant do her air hostess couse till she is 17 so this is a leadup to it, and i know hers is level 2, my oldest dughter who is 19 is wanting to do it to get into the travel agent side of things.
Both are at their dads tonight and tomorrow so cant give any more details really.
    Thanks

I would assume that the T&T course is level 3 as it's 2 years long, which would mean that she's eligible to have her fees waived as well as claiming the 30.00 ALG. If the course is lower than level 3 than she won't be able to get ALG and may have to pay fees.

She'll have to sign off JSA when the course starts although she'll be able to work part time alongside it and may be able to apply for financial help with any uniform or visit costs.

Thankyou for that Oldernotwiser, i know there is a level 3 in the course so hopefully she will be ok.....she isnt on JSA, think its emplyment support allowance for her back injury (broken sacrum), although this may stop soon as she is due to go back to the Drs to see if she is to have another sicknote or not.
    Thanks again
