I did mine in those plastic seed trays all 12 of them. I put a small amount of brown paper in so they stick out of it and placed in garage next to window where they get light from south facing windows but partly shaded due to house being nearby.

I left them for around 2 1/2 weeks and only last week out them in bags which are used for growing potatoes in

Sorry for hijacking this thread .. I have some spuds I bought at the farmers' market and they are sprouting now. Could I plant these or do they need to be special potatoes for planting? Or I could just make more potato salad! :)
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

No they should be fine, they a slim chance you might get blight unless its from a reputable supplier who provide seed potatoes usually come from Scotland

I have planted peelings before now that sprouted in composter

I also heard although not tried that you can cut seed potatoes in half and get more for the buck

Great, I'll give it a whirl so! Any pointers for a beginner on how to plant spuds would be very welcome. I remember my Mum used to mound up the soil on them - is that necessary? Seems like a lot of work. MInd you all her veg turned out great so maybe I should follow her example.:)
