Budgeting Loan from DWP

Hi all,

I have recently been given a property to rent from the local council, i have applied twice for a budgeting loan in a matter os weeks, the first i hand delivered to my local jobcentreplus to help with decorating materials, furniture and appliances, and i have had no response, i took out a budgeting loan around a year ago which i am paying back at present, but this time i desperatly need the money for the above mentioned.

Does anyone know how long it takes for a response ?

Thanks

It depends too be honest you say you already have a loan with them and your paying back, if this is the case they may not let you have another until this one is paid back, this is what they tend to do now. Or they will let you top up the loan you already have it can take weeks for a response as there are so many needing BL from JCP

Hi, best thing to do is give them a ring, they can tell you how much you owe on your previous one and tell you if they received your new one, they even worked out for me how much i could get before even sending me out the forms!!

Can't help with how long it will take but I can tell you the maximum amount you can get for a budgeting loan.

    Single person : £348
    Couple : £464
    Family : £812

This amount is reduced by the current outstanding budgeting loan debt you have.

an example: a single person applies for a budgeting loan. He took out a budgeting loan before for £250. He has already paid £150 back so has £100 outstanding. The maximum applicable amount would be £248.

I was told that you can have anything up to £1000 (sometimes it does go up to £1500 depending on funds in the kitty) and if you take out a loan say £250 and want another one after paying back £100, they double what you owe which would be £300 and take this away from what you could have and you get whatever the difference is.....

It used to be this way now its a limited and set amount as was stated by other poster

Try to get as much as you can from local furniture charities, such as Emmaus and similar, plus free stuff from Freecycle, Gumtree Freebies and similar rather than wracking up further debt.

Their members don't just give away furniture and appliances, I often see ads for tools and the like.

    Thanks for the replies,

I received a reply this morning saying that because i owe £210 from my previous loan, they can only offer me £134 ! What am i to do with that ? Just had carpet right over to measure and price, chose the cheapest carpet and it still came to £364!!

Oh well, freecycle it is :rotfl:

Hats off to the JCP for not getting you too deeply in debt (esp. as your user name is Debtworry!). As you say, Freecycle is worth a look and let's be honest, carpet is a luxury - not a necessity. You could put down lino or simply make do with nothing. I've had no carpet on my stair for four years now.
