Tax code change

Hi,

Can anyone tell me why my tax code (PAYE) would change suddenly to "BR" (Basic Rate) without warning from HMRC or my employers pay roll department?

Thanks

when you say 'without warning from HMRC' you mean they didn't write to you directly ? I think the payroll can only do what HMRC tell them to, so it must have originated from them - I'd suggest you give them a call.

It's presumably tied in with the new coding notice for the new tax year.

Did you change jobs in the last year ? Do you have more than one source of income ?

HMRC never wrote to me about a change and therefore I was somewhat surprised when my monthly salary was taxed an additional £120.

I contacted the tax office and they have corrected the "error". They told me they had had a new computer system installed recently (?) which - for some unknown reason - changed my tax code.

I have had my current job for over 4 years and I do not have a second source of income so the sudden change is a bit confusing/worrying.

Out of interest, was anyone else's tax code changed automatically by this "new computer system" at HMRC?

¿Alguien ha visto a mi nave espacial?

Biting is excellent. It's like kissing, only there's a winner.
