We joined onto a thread that was running last year which had some good suggestions:

Best trip last year for us was Loch Ken near Castle Douglas. Don't forget to take a bucket so your son can play down at the loch, my 6yr old lod this (as did his dad lol). We also liked Cashell at Loch Lomond (more expensive but closer and had fab showers). This year we have only been away once so far and that was to Oban which we also liked but I have heard people say the midgies get quite bad in the height of summer.
Callander will probably be next stop for us, or Walled Garden. I always read the reviews on the UK Campsite board too as they have a lot of detail and are really helpful with info such as what sites have takeaways, take ice packs etc...
It would be good if you could post back where you go, so we get some more ideas for this year!

Don't know if that's too far from EK?

If you dont mind travelling a bit Dalraddy Caravan site in Aviemore is lovely you get your own wee bit that has trees all around it they have around 50 tent pitches and are all individual.

Have you tried wigwamming, your wee one would love it, and it's not quite as "wild" as tent camping.

Glen Nevis campsite in Fort william is brilliant. a couple hour drive from EK but the trip up the a82 is worth it alone.
The place is spotless and its right at the foot of Ben Nevis!!

We are in EK also, and have a 6 year old, so circumstances are similar. Our favourite site is Hoddom Castle, down towards Lockerbie, not much over an hour from EK. Nice big open site, good pitches with lots of space around, a playpark for kids, nice castle with courtyard and bar. Also ***no midgies*** (or just about none!). We have other favourite sites up north, that are more scenic (places like Benderloch near Oban), but these can be a nightmare if you go at midgie time!

Didn't know there were so many of us from EK ;)

My family went to Southerness last year for the 1st time camping and loved it, site has entertainment for the kids and 2mins from the beach.

Let us know where you go and how you get on, as also thinking of going camping again this year!
    I get paid to party!:rotfl:

I'm going there in 2 weeks, from the website it looks amazing. I just hope I haven't got my hopes up too high!

I am sure you will love it - the only things to be aware of:

Possible noise from other campers (can be a problem at any campsite, but Comrie does have a no noise after 11pm rule)

You may get woken up by a c0ckerel in the (very early) morning! (but that's rural life for you)

The woodland pitches are up a steep slope and not suitable for huge tents (they are further away from the c0ck though!)

    Hope you enjoy it!
