Would you give a viewer your tel no?

Had a viewing over the weekend and was a bit surprised when they asked me for my tel no so they could ask any more questions afterwards. I gave them my mobile no but thought afterwards I'd probably prefer people to go through the estate agents. Too late I suppose now but wondered would others give their no or refer people back to the EA?
Don't want to come across as rude but that is what we'll be paying them for.

Before we even put an offer in, our vendor gave us her mobile number to book another viewing (on sunday). The EA found out, and was pretty angry with her for doing that, saying that we might bug her all the time. But we havent rung her once since the offer has been accepted, we have always referred back to the EA. Like you say, thats what they there for, but it is nice that the vendor offered, always good to have, just in case! Im sure you could make it clear to your buyers that any queries they have should be done via the EA.0

Unless they came across as weird (not happened yet!) I’d happily give a viewer my telephone number.

Other way round sorry, I'm the vendor, it was the viewer who asked me.

I wouldn't give out my telephone number to a potential buyer - most basic questions would be answerable on the HIP or through the EA if not clear, further questions through the conveyancing process after the survey.
I wouldn't want the risk of being bombarded with trivial questions or if they decide to buy, contacted directly about all sort of things where the EA or solicitor should act as gatekeeper.0 -

Yep all that went through my head as soon as I'd done it - just caught on the hop unfortunately. Will be more prepared next time, does it sound polite to say "sorry would rather any queries were put through our EA" or does that sound rude?
I don't think the viewer was that interested in our house so probably not going to cause too many problems, but still kicking myself!

We recently had a second viewing, and the viewers told us they intended to make an offer as soon as things are firmed up on their own sale.
We gave them our number and said they could call us if they needed any information or anything, but they know that any offers etc should be done through the estate agent. They did call us on Friday to provide an update. That also gave me the opportunity to let them know that there was another 2nd viewer coming out, so that put them in the picture too.
I have said to them that if they do buy our house then they can call us back once all agreed etc, and we will let them do any measuring up etc they needed or ask about anything else they wanted etc.
Seems harmless to me.
Do what you are comfortable with though!0 -
Before handing out my telephone number, I would think very long and hard about the possible repercussions should I decide to pull out of the sale/purchase for whatever reason. Let the EA deal with any resulting problems...0
