just because the OP does not qualify for the surgery on the NHS does not mean that it is an unnecessary operation. it happens a lot. example - you can't get a hip replacement on the NHS if you are deemed "too young" for it despite the fact you may be using a walking stick and in lots of pain, same goes for replacement knee joints etc.

Hope that you can find some way to raise the money soon OP because I don't imagine that you would willingly have an unnecessary operation unless it was going to mean some improvement for you personally in your physical health & general wellbeing.

If it is clinically necessary, and the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, then treatment would be available on the NHS. Joint replacements are available on the NHS for people of any age if there is a clinical need.

It still does not detract from the fact that the OP should not be taking on more debt when they are already incapable of managing their current liabilities.
    Gone ... or have I?

A woman I worked with years ago had lots of procedures done and so have many of her family by approaching the surgeon and agreeing to publicity after the operation if he does it for free, for example, she had a full face lift and then approached a womans magazine and told how she had a horrendous marriage (giving in depth details) had no self confidence left after the break up and her having her face lift done by Dr ???????? gave her the confidence and her life back, no mention of it being free in the article and the Dr gets free publicity and a recommendation aimed at the people who would presumably consider that type of work. The Dr in this example is regularly on TV and quoted in newspapers etc, oh and you would have to give photos. I'm not saying this is a good idea and it was years ago that I heard this, also I don't know if this would be relevant to the procedure you need but you would be surprised how common this is, not for me personally but horses for courses and all that;)
Thank you for this site Martin

OH and I are racking our brains, He may start doing some Matched Betting again if we can get a float together for it but other than than i am at a loss!

Surely betting is not the answer though?

I had to pay £2.5K when I had some surgery done in a private hospital near London. I fortunately was able to pay for it on my debit card and let the overdraft take care of it. I had £500 credit, so had to repay £2k and this was done within 2-3 weeks or so (once I was able to work again after recovering).
I was quite lucky, being a self employed taxi driver I was able to just go out and work all the hours I possibly could. 12-14 hour days, 7 days a week for 3 weeks builds up a large sum of money. Maybe your OH could do this, get a taxi license and then go and work for the money?
  • I know this isn't a large amount of money but what about DooYoo.co.uk?

You write reviews on products such as dvds or food and then get money for it.

I've got £50 in under two months without much effort, i know its not much but every little helps.
    £11,000 in 2011 = £71.74

They are available, but they do not always "give" them - And in the case of the OP it might be another operation not a joint replacement.

It took 7 years before I managed to get a simple xray. Supposedly a 5 year old cannot have a back problem. Then I moved to England from Wales when I was 10 and got told I must be pregnant... 2years later, a new doctor joined the surgery and finally decided to send me for an xray which then went into a mri scan and so on.
and now I have a life long condition which could of been operated on and solved when i was 5 by putting a metal plate in my back but now its to late becuase "I was to young".

But anyway, OP try simple things like going to poundland. If you got a mobile phone with you, photograph the products or just write it down on something come home n check it up on eBay. I sell stuff on eBay and one of the items I sell is available in £ land, i sell it for £8.95 free post (post costs round £2.50) so a nice profit there :) I do get it cheaper than £ shop - costs me 65p + VAT but still.

its quite a personal op, nothing to do with my boobs or enhancing myself in anyway. but ive been turned down because im too young i'm 21 & not "sick" enough at the moment. But i am not prepared to wait until my quality of living is bordering pathetic for something that can be done now. Thanks for all these ideas! still secretly hoping for a nice big win but untill then i now have £10 saved in my ISA! :D
    Had my amazing little girlie 08/12/2007 - 11 days late! 9lbs 3oz

    And lots of other challenges!
  • I know this isn't going to help the OP but just wanted to add that my friend just had to go private for a varicose vein removal which was causing her a lot of pain (she works on her feet all day). Apparently not done on NHS anymore! She would have struggled to work had it got worse so I'd say that was pretty important to her quality of life.

Anyway I hope you get your 5k Lauren - perhaps you could offer an ironing service from home or something to boost your fund??
