Can anyone price some bodywork?
Options
Hi, I hope you lot in here can help me.
Boyfriend bashed the door of his 51 plate Toyota Celica and reckons it'll need replaced. Bodywork centre is due to give us a quote this afternoon, anyone got a rough idea of what these things cost? Google has failed me, and I don't want to get the p*ss taken out of us. I'm waiting for a reply from some motor spares companies, there's a fab one in Doncaster who have found parts for me before, but no idea if this will be successful for bodywork.
Cheers verily if anyone has any ideas. Thankfully not the sort of thing I purchase regularly, car doors ...

If the door frame itself isn't damaged (twisted/bent), you'll probably get quoted for a new 'skin'.Guesstimate prices....
Skin £120
Paint/materials £60
Labour £140
Total getting toward £400 with VaT
This is assuming you use a larger bodyshop.
If you can find a reperer, rather than replacer of bodywork, it'd look a better job & be around 1/2 the cost.
The best way to find this sort of place, is to ask at your local independent used car sales garage - find out who does 'trade' repairs, get a quote there.
& you'r idea of a second hand door is OK, too. Expect the door to be £100 then remove old one & strip & re-paint & refit new, say £150 + VaT - around £300 total.

Thanks vansboy.
We were quoted £480 + VAT for the new door then labour on top of that, or pretty much the same to repair it. It's not twisted at all - most of the damage is paintwork except a couple of small dents.
I wonder if maybe we ought to get another quote ...0 -
how bad is it damaged?
does it affect use of the door?0 -
Usage is unaffected. Basically the car was driven alongside a concrete bollard, with the result that the door has multiple horizontal scratches/scuffing along it and a couple of very small (1" diameter) dents at the point of intial impact. BF wouldn't be happy with this but if it was me I'd just get the paint fixed as that would give a pretty good cosmetic appearance.0

It is always good to have friends that can do bodywork well. One of our body work chaps is excellent - did a job that formally is estimated at 5 hours is less than 20 minutes and was A1 conditionAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Just had my car in for a "minor" fix after woman across the road backed into it. A very minor scrape on the offside read wing- after polishing, a slight indentation just about noticeable. Bumper - paint removed from it approx 4incles long, 0.5 inches wide. When I picked the car up I looked at the bill her insurance company was going to get .... £5080

We did make a point of telling the bodyshop it was NOT going to be an insurance case ... :-/0

To be honest.... insurers often pay less as they have the buying power to negotiate down the hourly rate and have software which estimates the repairs so cant be ripped off on the hours. The difference is that an insurer has to return the car to a1 condition so may replace parts that could have a 90% perfect job done on a repair which a private person may accept for the lower parts/ labour priceAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
