Cable and wireless shares

Some years ago I bought some shares in Cable and wireless at just under four quid a share, I watched them drop each day in anticipation they would recover and produce a decent return. After a while I forgot about them and was going to count my losses and cash them in at 1.49. Now I have discovered they are only 54 p. I have read somewhere that the shares have been divided, what this means is dutch to someone like myself, can anyone explain as to what has happened to them

Cable and Wireless has recently split into two seperate quoted companies.
C&W Communications and C&W Worldwide.
You should have received plenty of communication about this from the registrars who are Equiniti. You should also have received new share certificates giving you the same number of shares in both companies.
If not, contact Equiniti as your old certificate is no longer valid.0 -
They split the company in two as it was considered undervalued like you say. You should now have shares in both companies, one is uk and one is world wide apparently
They have a good dividend at least?0 -
