Microwave oven - cracks

I have a Panasonic Microwave/Convection oven & have just noticed on the inside of the door on the opening edge plus on the inside of the door itself small hairline cracks have appeared. I use it a lot for conventional cooking & wonder if the heat has caused these cracks. I now wonder if leakage during microwave use would be a problem. As I've only had it for two years I don't really want to replace it yet but then again if its not recommended then I would like to know. thanks for any advice

  • Hi Our family seriously like the Panasonic NN A55W microwave and over the past years, and since they came on the market, we have had four of these units, purchasing three of them, one a replacement under g/tee.
Like you cracks have appeared in the doors and in the same area, top of door and opening side corner, one door skin was replaced under G/tee and the unit we are currently using has just cracked and now a long way out of warranty. I have just been given a rough price of £70 to repair so it looks as if we will need to purchase new.
The Panasonic Microwave system is good and we use it in the convection mode a lot, but like you I am concerned that it is microwave action that is causing the plastic to become brittle and crack. I should go back to the manufacturers but dealing with Panasonic can be exasperating!!! It took over four months to resolve the G/tee claim last time
  • hello to you too Graham. My Panasonic is a different model No. to yours & like you, this is our second one, the first one giving us many years of reliable service. I too use the convection mode probably more than microwaving simply because it is a smaller area to heat up & with the two racks, there is plenty of room for things to be cooked. I haven't tried to get through to them but can imagine it would be a case of being in a queue especially if its an 0845 or 0870 number (in mentioning this, maybe you know or perhaps don't, but numbers like this can be avoided if you go to a website to see it there is an alternative number; www.saynoto0870.com I have used it many times). Back to the microwave, I guess we will replace it in the next few months but such a shame they do not make the casing to withstand heat or microwaving especially as I've only had mine for about 2 years.
  • The wife like to use the convection oven too much to my annoyance. Its a cool running microwave appliance and the longevity of it must rely on running as cool as possible. She just caught the oil alight in the £100 pan on the induction hob on boost, silly moo.
