My grandfather suggested his favourite hymn, when we got married. Its "Dear Lord and father of mankind". Its lovely, but the second line is "forgive our foolish ways". Not the most suitable for a wedding!:rotfl:

My husband wanted "all things bright and beautiful"- No!!!!!

Trying to remember what we did have, though as its nearly 22 years ago- its proving difficult. I do remember the vicar reading my favourite prayer, which is St Francis of Assis, which the hymn "make me a channel of your peace" is based on.

    I LOVE that hymn! :T
we had Amazing Grace, Be Thou my Vision, Before the Throne of God , All Creatures of our God and King and How Great Thou Art. There is another thread about wedding hymns somewhere if you search for it.

And I love this one too!!! :T

My fav of all is 'I watch the sunrise', it's a beautiful song and to hear it sung by young children, oh my God it makes me weep! Especially this part...

But you are always close to me
    Following all my ways.
May I be always close to you
    Following all your ways, Lord

I wish we were having a church wedding now.

My brother wanted Abide with Me, and Eternal Father, because he liked the tunes.
Needless to say he'd given the words no thought, and with no connection to the sea the bride put her foot down and he didn't get either!
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Thanks Sammy, at least it's one most people should know so hopefully everyone won't be mumbling it! :D

my kids want 'my God is a great big God' and we wanted to start with morning has broken. I also wanted God in the planning and purpose of Life but gotta see if we can fit it in cos we are having a few readings but h2b says no one will know my request although i figured as long as people know the tune, they give it a go and i am trying to get my church congregation to attend anyway and they are big on the choir so fingers crossed it won't all be mumbles at the back like the christenings. lol

I went to a wedding last year and they had "If i were a butterfly" for the all the kids there (bride was a nursery nurse and invited her class to the church service)

I was there with my fiance and his brothers and they were in fits of laugher whilst singing it, wiggly worms and fuzzy wuzzy bear springs to mind. Hilarous and everyone still talks about it now.

If I were a butterfly, I'd thank you Lord for giving me wings
If I were a fish in the sea, I'd wriggle and (something?) and giggle with glee
And I just thank you Father for making me, me!

Just some bits of that I remember, it's lovely and perfect choice if she had her class there, how sweet!!
