 at least !!!!!! Turpin wore a mask;)
A quick search on EuroCarParts shows starting prices for most of those components. I use local garages and the ones I use get a lot of their parts from there.

If you go to EuroCarParts and enter your reg number it will give you an idea, I did quick search and come up with:

    Rear Disc = 17.59 each
Rear Pads = 17.82 per axle
    Headlight unit complete = 62.39
    Radiator - 64.16
    Timing belt 20.00

There is no need to got to a dealer; as long as an independant services/repairs to manufacturers specs then no problem

I did the same search as you, adding a water pump to the list. So my question relates to whether I can buy these myself and ask a garage to fit them, or will the garage insist on getting the parts? I.e. would some just be happy to have their labour costs paid and profit on this, rather than profit on both labour and parts?

Ask them.I've been pleasantly surprised in the past when my local garage has been able to get them cheaper than I could myself.

I've often bought parts that my garage fitted but I can't speak for all garages. Some will be OK with it, others might not. One concern they might genuinely have is that you might buy inferior or dodgy parts then blame them when they go wrong, or are incompatible with existing parts. They certainly won't guarantee the parts.

Majority of decent garages will fit only, only problem is if you supply the parts then you have to make sure they are spot on!
The garage I have used for past couple of years gets most of their parts from there and they always itemise parts, any time I have checked bill against online prices they have been near as damnit.
So, yes, most are happy to profit on labour only

Never just change the timing belt though, complete belt kit and water pump is better.
Totally agree, was only giving an indication of cost of parts

If the timing belt you supply breaks, what do you do?
If the belt they supply breaks, but it cost you £80 instead of £60, it was worth it.

Also, if the indicator is working every now and then - then its a wiringbulb problem, not the actual headlamp...?

i think the op wants to know about the head gasket issue, no way should it need doing twice.
Google gives you answers use it.........
  • I wonder if the dealer actually wants the work. Yes dealers charge a lot more but even considering that these prices seem prohibitively high.

Can't help but think the dealer dont want their service bays blocked up with a car needing specialist work that their technicians wont be able to do and hence tying up the main mechanics for significant time.
