I'd like to pay ours off by mid 2016. Our eldest will then be 18 and it will free up funds should she wish to go to uni. We have 4 children, so it could get expensive!

Also, OH and I are both 40. Getting the mtge paid off asap gives us more flexibility to do what we want without being tied to needing such a large income (ok, we could survive on less now, but then how would we be able to OP :D)

I think this changes from time to time, depending on each individuals requirements. I think this would be better worded as how will you spend the mortgage payment.

In the current climate i think just to be mortgage free it self is a great and fullfilling avcheivement

I have 2 daughters 15 and 17, they will need help in some way and of course me and the wife will do all we can to help them.

Once they are "settled" there will be something else to use the money for example save some for retirement etc

But as the main aim is "mortgage free" :j:j:j
To all keep up the good work

Personally I am not a MFW per se. I am however a wealthy person wannabe!

At present our mortgage is at a super low rate and OP would be foolish. We are concentating on investments and savings ATM. Should the mtg rate increase, we will change our strategy accordingly.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:
