    I can understand why :D

Lunch at the Griffin in Fletching is fantastic - if you can get a table and a parking space

So much of real rural Sussex right on your doorstep :)

Thanks DFC....will have to check that one out... looks very rustic :)
  • Well where can I start???? Loads of great info and it seems that I am going to do a lot of hunting to locate the best area that suits our needs. dfarry I will PM you but think we may end up working together judging by what you say.
It all sounds very nice and as for aircraft noise well...I was in the Navy and spent many years trying to sleep about 10 feet below any aircraft landing above me on a carrier so fairly used to it, not the same for my dearly beloved though. I think that what evryone is saying is come down a few times, have a look around and make my own mind up.
I have liked the words about the area south of Crawley, just need to know what the traffic will be like at different parts of the day.
Once again, many thnks and any other info will be most welcome.

I live in Caterham Surrey which is about 25 minutes to Gatwick and Crawley.
I have lived here for 14 years and we originally lived in Winchester.I love Caterham and we are moving house or trying to and still want to live in Caterham.
I think prices here are a bit more expensive than Crawley, but I love Crawley and shop there all the time.I don't know what areas to live in,although I do hear Horsham is a lovely place to live.
I think you need to do what we did when we moved up here from Winchester, come and spend a few days driving around and looking at the area.
Just print house details off the internet or phone agents for details and go and look in those road where they are to get a feel for it.
I have a friend who has lived in Caterham all her life and couldn't afford to buy a house here so she moved to Bewbush Crawley and said its fantastic and the local schools are brilliant.
Again with schools look up the ofsted reports on the web,but they are not the bee all and end all. You need to go and look at schools and decide for yourself.

I had your dilema a few years ago and after searching high and low (Crawley, Horsham, Caterham etc) we settled in Burgess Hill, 20 minutes south. We loved it, great facilities for kids - the Triange etc, schools, easy acces to London, Brighton and Crawley (shopping) and the house prices were reasonable compared to Horsham (although Horsham is lovely) but if I was moving south again, I would definately start with Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath.

Well, there is somewhere I hadn't even contemplated but will have a good look now. It sounds like the Costa Del Sol of the South;)

    Where did you end up?
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

  • Loonygooner its not a big defence company by any chance is it?
  • Hi,

I also work in Manor Royal ( for a well known Airline ). I currently live in Worthing. I would have to say that travelling in and out of Crawley is an absolute nightmare and seems to have got worse in the last couple of years.

Just for comparison puposes I can leave ( by car ) Worthing at :-

    07:30 and arrive at 08:10
    or
    08:00 and arrive at 09:15
    or
    08:15 and arrive at 09:30
    or
    08:45 and arrive at 09:30

Hence I do the last one !

I would also hope that you new company provides enough parking space as that is also an issue.

Crawley itself is fine but depending on your budget there are , in my opinion , nicer places to live, BUT you do have to cope with the traffic getting in.

Have a look on the property pages of https://www.sussexlife.com this has the facility to point at a map of sussex to locate properties.

    Cheers,

    Steve
