I have been trying to get quotes to replace around 30 roof tiles via telephone, but no luck so far. Does anyone have an idea of the going rates or had similar type of job done?
Any help will be much appreciated.

You'll need to be far more specific ....
- What type of tiles are these? (or are they slates) (Costs can vary significantly)
- What part of the country are you in? (regional prices affect the costs of the trades)
- Is there easy access to the roof where the work needs to be undertaken? (ie. can this be done from a ladder, or does scaffolding need to be errected)?
- Are the tiles in one area, or in numerous places? (undertandably this will increase the cost).
- Is there any other damage that needs to be repaired at the same time (ie. Battons replacing, pegs/nails/fixings or other tiles/slates, roofing felt, ridge tiles etc?)
Without any further information, the only thing anyone could say is that costs could vary from £100's through to £1000's ....0 -
Apparently they are "Plain" roof tiles from the 80's. I am in Enfield north London. The roof should be accessable by ladder. What is the maximum height for ladder work?
They are in different places. Any ball park figure would be a great help.0 -
As a very rough guide ....
Given your description of the tiles being "plain" / 80's - they probably arn't that costly, therfore it's labour that will the expensive bit. Just bear in mind - there will be a reason why the old tiles have gone (especially on a roof thats only 20ish years old, so a good roofer will investigate and ensure that the new ones are replaced propery and the reason diagnosed why the old ones fell out .... probably rusty nails (should have origionally been fixed with galvanised fixings), or probably not fixed at-all, therefore the origional roofer was relying upon the weight of the next row above keeping them in place ).... Given they are spead out - it will take a little time.
Anyway - a good roofer will check the roof out, while they are up there and fix any other minor problems they spot .... I would expect a reputable roofer (who's experienced, insured and takes all sensible saftey precautions) would charge for half to a full day + tiles, dependant upon whats required plus the cost of the tiles - I would expect a ball-park figure to be around £200 - £300 for the south east.
You might get an cheeper quote - but you only need to watch the "cowboy builders shows" on TV to see what they can do (or don't do) !!
Normal say working height would be a roof on a typical house (ground and first floor) - with roof above. If the access is difficult, steep ground, more stories etc - your roofer might need to get his longer ladder ! - Anything too high will necessitate scaffolding !0 -
I recently had new tiles ( chineese slate ) - coverage was around 8sqm. I paid £500, and that was the cheapest quote I could find. This was in the NW.0
