Tenth Anniversary 10 Posts Combo Breaker
Scottish Power messed up my previous switch to them from British Gas so I'm going back to BG.

I had to wait about 7 weeks, but my gas swapped back last week and I've had a new prepayment card for the meter (kind of irrelevant though as it's due to be replaced with a credit meter tomorrow).

However the electric hasn't switched to BG. I phoned up to ask why and they said it was due to have switched to them a couple of days earlier and they'd phone me back, but didn't.
I phoned again on Friday and they told me they had no details of the electric account from Scottish Power. The lady spent some time looking through various computer databases and said something had gone wrong somewhere but it's due to swap over on 29th May now - about 6 weeks later than it should have done.

Are random delays like this common?

Incidentally, Scottish Power still haven't sent me an electric key for the prepayment meter even though I've phoned them a couple of times to ask why (and they didn't know) so I haven't paid them for any electricity yet....

Should I be firing a letter off to Scottish Power asking what they're playing at or should I sit tight and hope it does get swapped to British Gas at the end of May?

    Sorry to hear about your situation. The process of transferring supplier takes up to 6 weeks to complete from the point of application (provided no errors are made during the application). If your original application to British Gas did not go through, they should be able to tell you why. It is taking another 6 weeks because they are processing a new application for you.

    Unless your prepayment meter has been credited with a large sum of money, I suspect that you will require a key to top up prior to British Gas taking over. If you have still not received your new key a couple of days after requesting it, I would call back and request that a key is sent to you urgently. If you want me to look into this for please just send me your details.

    Thanks for the reply Colin.

    I phoned Scottish Power again today and was told they had sent a key out on 19th March (when I last phoned up) although nothing has arrived here.
    They are sending another one to me which should arrive by the end of the week. If it doesn't I might ask you for some help!

    British Gas never showed up to change my gas meter today :(
