iTunes issues AGAIN!

Ok, latest problem...how do I get shot of all the double song entries please? There must be an easier way than manually selecting each one individually and deleting. Surely?

Somehow, I have various albums that once clicked on, show each song twice. I'll be here all day unless there's an easy way.

Even without the show duplicates dialogue, iTunes behaviour mirrors Windows Explorer - i.e. select first tune with the mouse, hold down Ctrl key, select others with the mouse until all selected, release Ctrl key, hit Delete key.

yes, but that doesn't allow you to quickly delete duplicates if you have thousands of songs

That's what I thought, but when I click on show duplicates, all I get is a list of every single song in the itunes library. (Even ones that are not in duplicate).

Given the amount of issues iTunes is throwing up lately I'm inclined to think there is either a corruption isssue somewhere or some other program is affecting it somehow. Nothing seems to be working as it should.

I think I may delete the lot and uninstall and start again. :(

Any suggestions for good 3rd party itunes replacement?

iTunes works just fine on my Mac. I can even get rid of duplicates easily.

I realise this doesn't help you any (unless you're in the market for a new computer ;) ).

And there was me thinking only I had this problem!

What I did was to remove the whole lot, and re-download all the songs again. And then sync...Job Done!

Yup, I/we know. But the OP asked for an "easier way than manually selecting each one individually and deleting" which I read as Select-Delete-Select-Delete etc

The method described is "manually select each one then delete them all in one keystroke"

    Are you sure?

I get a list view, sorted by artist, then by song within artist - with the duplicates shown together, of course.

Using the 'show all' button at the foot of the screen brings back the non-duplicate items.

If every track in your library is duplicated, then 'show duplicates' will of course show all of your library......

How did you get your music into your library? Ripping CDs individually, or adding music files with the 'add file' or 'add folder' options?

Yip. The 'show all' button did nothing as they were all already displayed iyswim?

Not every track was duplicated, only certain albums.

Most stuff was added via cd, some were downloaded.

I've deleted loads now anyway. I'm starting from scratch when I get more time. In fact I'm going to format the pc as there's a few other things I'm not happy with either.

ahh hold on,i dont think itunes can differentiate between the same track from different sources
eg if you have take that _ patience and take that patience from whatever album then its not a duplicate
it displays duplicates of the exact same file/file name IYKWIM
