water butt leaking
Ditto
I bought a 210 litre water butt from Aldi a few weeks ago, trying to be environmentally aware etc;). Attached it to the down pipe on the extension and when we had some rain recently it filled up:)
But I noticed that the tap cannot be screwed tightly enough to stop the water leaking from around it. When the water butt was emptied I siliconed around the tap thinking that would stop the leak, it didn't.
What can I use to stop this leak, its pi$$ing me off that the water is just running away.
Thanks

Probably need a new washer, I think they pretty standard
I had this problem last year but tightened the tap to solve the problem0 -
taps and washers/nuts are flat, the water butt is round. thats the basic problem.
double up on the rubber washer, that may cure it.
either side if possible.Get some gorm.0 -
There wasn't any washers with the butt. I thought silicone would have sealed the joint, next time I'm in b&q I'll buy a couple of rubber washers.
Thanks for the replies.0 -
My water butt although not Aldi one (got from evergreen.co.uk) came with a washer in the tap0

when ive been stuck, say on a sunday PM, ive used old bike inner tubes cut up, for emergency washers.
they work fine.Get some gorm.0 -
I expect that the silicone was squeezed out when the nut on the back of the tap was tightened. Some sort of rubber washers are definitely required.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
