UPVC door hinges - changing from bottom to side

When we extended we had a UPVC door installed from the bedroom in preparation for adding a balcony at a later date. For safety reasons the builders hinced the door from the bottom to just open a little like a window. They said it could be converted to a door easily in the future. We are in a position to add a balcony now but the installer says that few workman will want to fiddle about converting the hinges from the bottom to the side and if they did then they will charge a price similar to fitting a new door. He suggests getting a new door (approx cost £450). I would welcome views about this? Are workman willing to "fiddle about" changing the hinges on a UPVC door? Any idea of cost? Is it best to get a new door? Thank you.

I would reckon between £150 -£170, parts are not too expensive but time wise could be a couple of hours work. Is it definitely a door, or is it a window that is door sized

Thank you SatanicHare. It is definitely a door. What kind of workman should I contact to get a quote, do you think? A carpenter? Also do you think it is worth trying myself? Thank you.

Would look for a D/G repair company, as far as doing it yourself, it's not rocket science, just depends on how confident you are. There are different types of hinges, flag, butt and rebate are the most common if you can get some pics I might be able to advise better
