NTSC v's PAL camcorder

I am going to USA soon on holiday and was going to buy a mini dv camcorder out there as the prices seem to be much better value. However, I notice that most of their camcorders are set up in NTSC format. I know this is something to do with video playback but am not sure what effect this might have if I tried to connect up the camcorder to my UK televsion. Also, what would happen if I transferred the footage from my camcorder tape to my pc. Would it play OK that way? If so, could I then transfer the footage via a dvd writer to disc and play back on my tv in this manner?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Most of the camcorder in the states will be NTSC as that is the TV system they use.

Some UK TV and video's will accept an NTSC signal but it depends on the model and I believe some do it better than others.

The main differences are the number of lines and the scan (refresh rate). It's the second of these which can cause problems when doing NTSC to PAL conversions.

Most TV cards or other capture cards for computers will accept both inputs.

Personally I wouldn't buy NTSC equipment.
