Lengh of tenancy agreements -12 months how common

How common is it it for shorthold assured tennancies to be 12 months as opposed to 6 months?
For everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.

    I've hard of this although often understand there is a break clause after 6 months. Some parties want the security of 12 months.

    as a LL i never ever give 12 months to a new tenant... the tenant needs time to decide if the property is for them, and the landlord needs time to decide if the tenant is acceptable

    AFter that, if all is well i am happy to offer a 12 months agreement.. It is legal to offer up to 3 years on an AST in England and Wales....

    I think it depends on the area. I used to move around a lot for work, and in some parts of the country I found it near-impossible to get a six month agreement, but in other parts LLs seemed to hold Clutton's view.
