Details of a member of our family is as below and i would greatly appreciate it if someone can shed light on what can /nt be claimed.
Both parents are British born. Mother is recieving long term In cap benefit for about last 3 yrs but has worked for 18yrs prior
They have a boy age 4.5 who is at private nursery costing £120 per week. And another one in full time education below 16ys.
Father earns about £23k per annum.
Young child's nursery pays back arround £550 per quater which i assume is a CHILD CARE ELEMENT which is paid to the carer ( ie nursery and then nursery refunds it back to parent) which he is entitled to between age 4-5 (until he starts full time eduateion). is this correct?
We are confused about what "child care element " is and "child tax credit" is and "Tax credit allowance" and "working tax credit" is.Please advise what these are and whether they may be entitled to all these?
In short what benefits are they entitled to under thier curcumstances?

No they wont be entitled to all of those. They will get child benefit for both children, and child tax credits. Income is too high to recieve working tax credits and they wont get the childcare element of tax credits as only 1 parent is working0

Isn't there something about free nursery education (X hours per week) for those over 3 but not in school - maybe that's what is being referred to0

if the child is in a private nursery they may not be government funded therefore the parents would have to pay all of the childcare costs or move the child to a funded nursery where they get I think either 5 mornings or 5 afternoons per week (aprox 15 hours per week)0

If the parent claiming I.B is deemed disabled then the childcare element may be paid.0 -

I think the refund is the hours the government pay for, so the nursery obviously take the full amount from parents and refund the voucher when they receive it.
For tax credits, they should have an annual award which will tell them exactly what they receive.
Working tax credit is paid to people on a low income - one parent would need to be working more than 16 hours and they probably earn too much for it.
Child tax credit is paid to people with dependent children and with an income below around £50k so they should be getting that.
Childcare element is the part of working tax credits that helps parents fund childcare. Normally, both would need to be working 16 hours a week but it can be claimed if one parents is classed as having a disability and the other works.
The childcare element is normally (as far as I am aware) paid to the parent and it is their responsibility to pay the nursery, so I don't think that refund has anything to do with that.
