Re-grouting existing tiles - How?

Hi all. We have had our kitchen for some time now and are about to renew the flooring, get new gas hob, sink/taps etc...the grout on the splash back tiles (10cm x 10cm or 4" x 4") looks its age and needs freshening up and we have nearly 5m2 covered. I don't want to use those "magic pens" as i think they are a waste of space and just hide a problem.
Without having to take the lot off the wall and start again...........would anyone here have any advice on how to proceed? Many thanks.

you can buy a grouting tool that scrapes away the top layer, then just regrout in your favourite color.
(a bit like a basic tile cutter).
or its easy enough to make yer own tool from an old screwdriver.Get some gorm.0 -

Did this the other day. The grout was a b!tch to get out with the scraper and I scored a couple of the tiles, but once re-grouted it looks a whole lot better.0 -

Did a toilet refurb at one of our local engineering firms recently and used one of these

The results were fantastic

I removed the grout in my first flat using one of the more conventional grout removing tools (has teeth like a saw blade - just bigger) and managed to get through 2 of them before I got most of the grout out. Its hard work but the results can be great as shown above.0
