BT Line attached to Soffit Board

Hi,
I am a new member and wanted a bit of advice and also let other people know how BT rip their customers off.

I am about to have my Soffit boards replaced on my house, on which years ago BT fitted the telephone line bracket. As this is BT property I called them to ask if they would move it so I could get my new Soffits fitted. To my surprise they said it would cost me £99.00 to have this bracket removed and refitted and I can not see why I should have to pay this as they fitted it to the boards and not the wall, as it is their responsibility and they have left the old bracket which is unused still attached to my wall...

Any thoughts from other people would be appreciated.

Thanks

Manco

Speak to them and tell them you are going to charge them for incorrectly fitting it in the first place and tell them it has damaged your property,

That might get them twitching a bit
  • I was thinking of doing something like that

    Cheers
  • firstly it may well have been fitted to the soffits to get clearance across the carriageway or for other reasons. without knowing and seeing it is hard to tell.
it is quite normal practice across a whole range of industries to charge the customer when the customer requires something above and beyond the contracted terms.
if your tv aerial is getting in the way of the renewal of your soffits ...ring round a few companies and see who will do it for nothing

I feel its fair for them to charge you. If you wasn't happy with the way it had been fitted to start with, then you should have made the engineer aware of this. Its only now, years after its been there, that YOU want it moved, so BT have every right to charge you, for the cost they will incurr.

I think that you're just going to have to grit and bear it. The person(s) doing the work will charge labour, and BT is no different.

If possible, it will probably be moved on to the wall. If you live in a bungalow, for example, and it will mean not enough clearance between the dropwire and the carriageway, then it may be a different story.
  • We had our soffits and facia on our house replaced lat year our phone line too was attached to the old ones. The company carrying out the work attached the line to the new soffits we didnt have to inform bt or pay £99 or whatever. It wasnt even an issue i asked the fitters of the facia what we should do to inform bt his reply was oh dont worry about that we will attach the bt line no need to get bt out

Maybe so, but tampering with any part of the BT network is illegal, and against you're T&C's to allow any one to do so. Also if you're contactors make a balls up, You will be liable for BT putting things right. To fix a balls up would cost £135.12 for the first hour or part hour, then £64.63 per hour or part hour after that!
