Norton Internet Security 2005- any conflict with ZA or XP?

My NAV 2002 has reached the stage where I can renew later this month for £17 with no technical support or take up their offer of Norton Internet Security 2005 with free Password manager £35 odd.

I've used NAV through various renewals for years and am happy enough with it. What bothers me is that NIS 2005 has a Norton Firewall and various other bits and pieces like spam filters. I am not sure whether these would conflict with Win XP Home - myOS -or Zone Alarm Pro which I also have. I run Spybot and AdAware and am covered for popups and ads .

What I'd really like to do is just upgrade the AV and avoid conflicts. My PC is Pentiun 4 coming up to 2 years old.
Any advice welcome

Rachel

if you already have zone alarm then you wont need the firewall, so is the other extra bits it has realy worth the extra £18.

another option to have a look at is zone alarms security suite.

or avg which is a good free anti virus, along with your zone alarm, adaware, spybot is a good enough package and best of all free

I have NIS on several machines with no problems with XP Pro and XP home.

I do however, turn of XP SP2 firewall.

It does all my needs although I do also run other security software just in case.

I've just had the same offer. I renewed my Norton AV 2002 about a month ago. I also run Zonealarm Pro, which really is a very good firewall. This and the fact that the AV 2002 runs so well and smoothly in the background led me to just take the renewed update subscription.

Norton NIS has more than you really need. You shouldn't really run more than one software firewall, too many chances for a conflict and slower downloading. Also if you AV runs well, why change it? Installing new software can be a right pain sometimes.

Yep, definitely don't have two software firewalls. A software and a hardware firewall make a good combo. Most of the software firewalls really work by controlling what programs can access the network / internet.

Similarly, while you can have two antivirus programs installed you should only have one running as the realtime scan.

I dont have two firewall unless you count the one on the router. I just use a combination of NIS, AVG, The cleaner (tojan killer), Adware Pro, M$ antispyware and spybot. I disbale the NIS antispam as I use mailwasher for all my spam needs.
