Hi
Ive got an ipod touch which I use to check emails/facebook on the wifi off my router.
Its suddenly started to pick up what must be a neighbours wifi as the main wifi supply not my netgear router, eventually it seems to give the option of netgear but more than often only option is the neighbours!
Anyone know how I can alter this?
We are with BT I think Im picking up the next but one house that has virgin and fast broadband, but not sure.
Any advice very welcome thanks:)

Check your router signal, when your connected to next doors is your showing?0

If you are actually connecting to your neighbours wifi then do them a favour and tell them so they can enable some sort of security.
To stop your itouch connecting to their network, when connected go into settings, wifi, and press the arrow to the right of their network name ( which should be ticked if connected ). On the next page right at the top there should be a button " forget this network " press this and you will be asked to confirm and that will stop your itouch connecting.
If your router is not showing on the itouch then its probably interference or try turning the router off and on.0 -
Thanks sometimes it picks up netgear othertimes it picks up 'joyce' I don't know who Joyce is! Must be a neighbour it's a secure setting so asks for user name and password which I don't know but does seem to take over my netgear sometimes it won't pick up netgear just this Joyce.
I've clicked on Joyce but no box to forget setting, yet there Is that option on the netgear?
Don't want to start messing as that usually means I get in a mess! Il try to find out who Joyce is as none of the neighbours I know have that name!Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

Ok I was under the impression you were connecting to this other network.
Go into settings, wifi, towards the bottom there is a slider " ask to join networks" if this is on turn it off, this should stop your itouch asking to join other networks.
( The next time you join your network you might be asked for the password but after that it will connect automatically).
If after this the network "joyce" shows but yours does not or is slow to show up it could be that they have a more powerful router and are broadcasting on the same channel. To change channels on your router you will need to log into it usually via a web browser and change the channel. If you set up the router in the first place this is quite straight forward, but I suggest before you start fiddling you make a backup of the router settings and you can restore them if you make a complete mess of things.

Thank you have done first part and so far only getting netgear will see how it goes tonight as evenings seem worse.
If I need to fiddle with the settings on the router Il ask my cousin to look at it with the remote access he has set up here as I dont dare mess with it as I usually mess it up big time:oSealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

Hi bumping this back up as still having problems with this.
I have worked out that the stronger wifi signal is the neighbours who have virgin broadband and we have a BT contract. Unless Im by our router my ipod touch is still picking up Joyce next door!
When I click on Joyce it does not have the option to 'forget this network' where my netgear has.
Anyone got any ideas on how to make my netgear the main wifi link?
Just been away and the itouch picked up the free wifi in the holiday cottage really well, soon as we get back home it mainly picks up the neighbours.
Thanks:)Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.
