I use a bronzer in a plastic lidded compact (non hinged), and after having my bronzer a few months I realised the lid had cracked, so I taped it to keep it together. Finally (with keeping it in my bag), the compact distintegrated. This left me with the bronzer in the metal dish but nothing to cover it with so I can keep it in my bag. Until I decided to try the plastic top off a Pringles tin and it fitted! So I can now keep my bronzer in my make-up bag and not worry about it being ruined with its new 'lid'.

This is more about making a few pennies, shifting a few pounds (the weight ones) and stopping you from shopping in your lunch break.

If you have a smartphone and use Quidco, do you know you can get paid for walking into a shop? If you work in a big city this is a great way to spend your lunch hour and the good thing about the 'check-ins' is they clear straight away. So if you want to earn a few extra pennies in your lunch hour this is a good way to do it. I did it when in the city the other day and only checked in at the stores on the street I was visiting and earned a £1. Might not sound like a lot but its extra towards bills, savings, presents etc.

I've been doing exactly that. Gives me the motivation to actually leave my desk. I usually feel much better for having had both a proper break and some fresh air. :T

We recently moved into our first home and as we have a baby, we had a lot of muslins lying around. I don't like white napkins and using paper towel everyday would be wasteful, so I chopped the muslins into quarters and sew a hem on them. Perfect napkins, and not white so they don't show the stains :)

A couple of things I do...
when making a roast - I peel my veggies before the meat goes in the oven, and onion skin and carrot peelings and sprout trimmings go into the bottom of roasting dish, then meat on top and about 1/2 inch of water, then cover and roast :) It makes a super gravy.

When I had my babies - rather a few years ago now!!! I had been working i a local hotel, and they had to throw out the toweling bar mats, and i asked if I could have them - they were great for burping babies on shoulder, and so easy to wash out :) I told a friend this, and she has been using an old towel that she cut into rectangles and hemmed on sewing machine.

If you get books from Amazon and sell anything on ebay, keep the amazon cardboard, remove your address label, and turn inside out and use.

  • If I've opened a bottle of red or white wine and not finished it, I pour the leftover wine into ice cube trays and freeze them. Then, if I'm making casserole, spaghetti bolognaise, or anything that you can add wine to, I just stick an ice cube or two in. Saves having to open a fresh bottle for cooking and means that the leftover wine doesn't go to waste!

If you want to get your feet in tip top condition before summer and don't have a foot file then cheap emery boards will do the same job. A large tub of them can be bought from Poundland or HB. These are perfect for the edge of your big and little toes and heel. Best of all they can be thrown away once used. Once filed, dampen the skin and using a little salt or sugar as a scrub, rinse and dry. Your feet should now be quite warm, slather them with body lotion and if you don't have any you can use hair conditioner and put on a pair of socks and leave them on overnight. Your feet will be lovely and soft in the morning.

I cook my pasta this way on a gas hob in a cool kitchen, generally I find it doesn't take much longer than the time stated on the packet. I also use the method for white rice, but when cooking brown rice I boil the water (in the kettle shop) add to the pan with the rice, bring to the boil, turn off gas, after 15 minutes bring to the boil again and then turn off gas, cooking time about 5 minutes longer than instruction on packet & lots of gas saved.

I put pasta or rice in a bowl big enough to go into the mw with at least a couple of inches gap at the top. Boil a kettle of water, pour onto the rice/pasta, add salt if you use it, cover and bring back to the boil in the mw. Turn it off and leave it for 10/15 mins, longer if you like your pasta/rice soft, tip into a colander, rinse with a kettle of boiling water and you have perfectly cooked rice/pasta at minimal cost.

For freezing I part-cook a big bowl of pasta or rice, cool under the cold tap and freeze in portions. When I need some I cook it through thoroughly, this stops any bacteria growing. Rice is ideal for risotto done this way.

If you are buying veg out of season it's worth checking the freezer section [not if you need to stirfry] eg at the moment broccoli is £2.50 a kg fresh and £1.35 frozen for the same amount. I also often find better deals on the frozen mince and am able to pick up lean steak mince for a similar price to the ordinary mince from the fridge.
