If you are lucky enough to have cucumbers growing in your green house. Then once you have picked them put them in a bowl with ice cold water this will stop them going soft. Afterwards wrap them tightly in aluminim foil that way the cucumber will stay fresh for longer. The aluminium foil bit I do with cucumbers that I have bought as well.

Save the plastic trays that soft fruit comes in. These are great for compartments in drawers for socks/tights/make-up etc to keep them tidy.

If you wear make-up every days try only using foundation on your t-zone and using whats left on the make-up sponge for the rest of your face.

If you have hair thats long enough to tie up and you want to try to get longer between washes then try tying your hair up at night. Pull your hair to the top of your head so it won't annoy you during the night. Use a scrunchie rather than a band so it won't snap your hair and if you don't have a scrunchie you can use an old pair of (clean obviously) knickers. You'll find tying your hair up means it will be cleaner for longer.

If you want to make pasta salad then you can use coleslaw instead of mayo. I make sure all the bits in the coleslaw are finely chopped but a huge tub of value coleslaw (25p) and a 500g bag of pasta would be enough for 5 days. I add whatever else I have (tonights) is chopped sugar snap peas.

If you want a good but cheap face cream with SPF, try sun cream. Either use up what you have or many places are selling off what they have (Aldi's).

If you have sensitive skin or its very dry, try a teaspoonful of oats mixed with a little tepid water and spread on the skin. You can either leave it on for a few minutes or massage it in for about 30 seconds. Then rinse off and you'll have lovely soft, clean skin.

  • Another thing I do is bake a load of spuds, first night have a jkt spud, next night make mash and have potato skins on the third - all from same batch! Mind, for me that means cooking about 25 spuds in one go! I am sure it saves a bit of time/energy along the way!!

    Wow, great idea.:)

Brushing a pet? If you're brushing a pet then where you can do it outside. If this isn't possible then brush them over a wipe clean floor (means you don't need the hoover only a mop/brush), finish by using a damp rubber glove to run your hand over your pet's fur. This gets the last loose hairs off them and means they don't go straight onto your carpet.

I'm going to try that tip today.:T

Put your dirty mop heads through the washing machine with other washing- it will extend the life of them hugely.

Microfibre cloths are very good for bringing chrome on taps, shower fittings etc to a shine. You really don't need gallons of floor cleaner- a cap full will be fine for most floors. Same goes for surface cleaner- you don't need a huge amount all you end up is with loads of soap bubbles you then have to deal with. At home I often just use a spray bottle full of water with a small amount of washing up liquid in for kitchen sides, washing down paintwork etc. Bathroom cleaners and kitchen cleaners seem to do the same job so you probably don't need both and as a professional cleaner, I can confirm that stainless steel sink cleaner doesn't give any better results than using normal cleaner. For a bath and a sink it's more effective having a sponge with a decent scourer attached to remove the dirt rather than using masses of cleaner. Make sure you rinse over loo hinges with a wet cloth after you've cleaned them to stop the metal corroding. Feather dusters are really useful for cleaning behind hard to reach places aswell as tops of pictures, lampshades under tables etc. You will get a much better finish on sinks etc if you buff up and dry taps and sinks quickly with a cloth.

None of this takes much time but gives a better look. Hopefully some useful money and time saving tips there. I love cleaning but have also had to do it when working full time in a different job and know that most of us don't wish to spend all our free time scrubbing and grubbing around!

I find the exact opposite :( If i tie my hair up at night, its really greasy by morning and can't be worn loose the next day, whereas if i leave id won when i go to bed its not nearly so bad the next day and I can get another day's 'wear' out of it. But then, i have really greasy hair any way :(

Orangesmartie, have you tried a 100% cotton or silk pillow case to sleep on? That should help with oily hair.
