I note there is a comment about Woodford being slated for not including Tech stocks during the tech boom and being proved correct, is this not a myth as those particular stocks did not in general pay decent dividends (if any), not a good idea for an income fund
That seems like a well made point.Awaiting a new sig0 -

As previously posted I think this seems, on the face of it, a good point. i.e.was it choice not to buy into the current "best thing" or was it the fact that hands were tied in such a big fund requiring income rather than growth.Awaiting a new sig0 -
I would have thought that the comment made by StevieJ would have generated more comment. Why has this comment not been made at the journalistic level?
After the comment by StevieJ it now makes perfect sense to me for my purposes.Awaiting a new sig0 -

Perhaps I posted at a time when the wrong people were online but I'm surprised that not one of the regulars has given any response to this comment on the debate about a fund that many people hold
If it helps I'm not anti Neil Woodford. I hold a very large sum in his(?) monthly income plus fund which has done very well over the last 12 months but I guess may run out of steam at some stageAwaiting a new sig0 -
The fund has delivered reasonably well. It is quite a safe fund for those who wish to invest but not risk the entire savings pot. For those looking for dynamic risk and consequent returns then this fund is not for you. For those looking for a fund manager with a responsible proven track record then this is a reasonable fund.0

I agree and thanks for the rely but I was looking for a response as to why this fund has been applauded for not taking part in previous rallies when its remit didn't allow it (as I interpret the post by StevieJ earlier)Awaiting a new sig0 -
Are you referring to the comment on not investing in tech stocks?.
Quite a number were new companies and didn't pay dividends. Quite a few went bust once the dotcom boom expired while others remain way below the share prices achieved in the late 90s.
Look at
Sage - down 60%+ over 10 years
Autonomy is about 50% of its price in 2000
Filtronic was over £20 and is now 30p
Psion was over £40 and is now 80p
ARM has done ok though almost doubling since 1999.
He also avoided banks over the last few years which must have been a difficult decision as the yields were quite good. On the other hand he also avoided mining which has seen a big rise but then the yields are not generally so good.0 -

Miners are similar to tech stocks re yield, I agree a top call by Woodford on the banks though, then again the Jupiter Finance fund swerved them as well, must have been difficult for a fund devoted to finance'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

Not sure about others but Psion £40 and Filtronic £20 - when was that then ?0 -
I thought this would have been bumped to point out by luck or judgement Mr Woodford has ducked taking a massive hit on a BP investment! Down 15% post spill so far I believe?0
