Linux on Acer Netbook. How do I update Firefox?

As the title says how do I update Firefox from ver2 to 3.6.3? I don't know much about Linux and how it works. Googled it but even more confused now, as I am supposed to type in some commands? But where?? Please talk me through Janet and John style.

Many Thanx

    Probably Linpus
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

Do you have a menu entry called 'Synaptic Package Manager', or an entry simply labelled as 'Package manager'?.

If so, then run it, you should see a list of programs you have installed (just like 'Add and remove programes' in Windows).
If using Synaptic Package Manager, click on 'Reload' in the top menu bar (this updates the list of packages to show the latest version). Scroll down the list of programs till you find 'Firefox', if an update is available then this will show-up as a star on the square to the left of the program name. Click the program name, then select 'update', finally click 'ok' and it will update. If you want to update all your installed programs, this can be done via an 'update all' button in the top menu.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

    Hi, it's Linpus Lite v1.0.9.E.

Try opening a terminal session (normally found under applications>accessories) and type the following:
    sudo apt-get upgrade

    Android User/ Motorola Dext
    Linux User/ Xubuntu

It's an Aspire One 8.9" basic version.
As you can see I don't have a clue what you are refering to. The only tabs on desktop are Connect, Browser, Messnger, Email.Spreadsheets/Office programs.Media and photo/Webcam.Files, My Documents, Music, Pictures...etc.
I have only bought this second hand with no other paperwork or discs. So just trying to find my way around on it.

    Full instructions here.

This has loads of stuff for AA1 Linpus users.

It has enabled me to put Firefox 3, Open Office 3 and all sorts of other stuff onto mine as well as getting it to open files on my XP desktop machine.

Also, have a look at this. It enables you to open up a lot of other menus by right clicking.

You can download a restore image from either Acer or Linpus onto a Windows machine. You can then restore to factory settings via USB - either a CD/DVD reader or a stick if you need to.

I have found VLC is better for video than the player that comes with it and XMMS for music (it looks and behaves like old versions of Winamp).

They are prone to losing their WIFI connection and people have had all sorts of problems reconnecting. I generally find that I can do so by switching it off and then, when it is completely powered down, restarting it - selecting restart does NOT repair the connection, though.

The most common reason for losing the connection is fiddling with the slide bar at the right hand corner of the base nearest to you. Let the light come on and then leave it alone!
